N Align a remaining marked dark purple print 11⁄ 4" square with one end of a red tone-on- tone 2t1¹⁄ 4" rectangle (Diagram 6; note direction of marked line). Stitch, trim, and press as in Assemble Blocks, Step 3.

N Join two red tone-on- tone 11⁄ 4" squares, six Flying Geese units, and five red tone-on-tone 11⁄4t9¹⁄ 2" strips to make a short inner border strip. Press seams toward red tone-on-tone strips. The short inner border strip should be 11⁄4t56" including seam allowances. Repeat to make a second short inner border strip.

N Sew long inner border strips to long edges of quilt center. Sew short inner border strips to remaining edges. Press seams toward inner border.

1 2—51⁄2t66" outer border strips

N Cut and piece dark purple print 51⁄2t42" strips to make:

1 2—51⁄2t66¹⁄ 2" outer border strips

N Sew 51⁄2t66¹⁄ 2" outer border strips to long edges of quilt center. Add 51⁄2t66" outer border strips to remaining edges to complete quilt top. Press all seams toward outer border.

N Align a marked dark purple print square with opposite end of Step 1 red tone- on-tone rectangle (Diagram 6; again note direction of marked line). Stitch, trim, and press as before to make a Flying Geese unit. The unit should be 2t1¹⁄ 4" including seam allowances.

N Repeat steps 1 and 2 to make 26 Flying Geese units total.

N Referring to Quilt Assembly Diagram, sew together seven Flying Geese units and six red tone-on-tone 11⁄4t9¹⁄ 2" strips to make a long inner border strip. Press seams toward red tone-on-tone strips. The long inner border strip should be 11⁄4t65" including seam allowances. Repeat to make a second long inner border strip.
